Infants and young children both have an “absorbent mind,” which is time-sensitive and where learning is as effortless as it will ever be. Babies are frequently likened to sponges because they can absorb information simply from being in their environment. Conscious learning doesn’t occur until around age four, and before that, they are unconscious learners. The babies cannot remember learning during this time, but the learning during this time is meant to be foundational. During this time period, babies and young children are intrinsically driven to learn and master related skills.
